Tips on Drain Maintenance

At Dollar Plumbing it is our goal to keep your drain systems in good condition and problem free. In addition to our services, you too can keep up drain maintenance to ensure they are not problematic.

Here are some basic tips that can reduce drain problems now and in the future.

Sink Drain

• Never pour oil or grease down the drain
• Do not overwork your garbage disposal with large amounts of food and vegetables
•  Occasionally throw a lemon down your garbage disposal, it acts as a cleaner and an air freshener

Toilet Drain

• Never flush toys, feminine products, or baby wipes down the drain

Shower Drain

• If possible, pull up the grate that covers the drain, bend a wire hanger to form a ‘fishing line’ type instrument to fish out loose hair blocking the drain

All Drains

• Avoid using harsh chemicals to clean your drains, this is harmful to the pipes and the environment
• Use drain cleaner enzymes, like zep drain cleaner, this cleaner has bacteria that breaks down mold and mildew and other organic substances
• Use a 1:1 ratio of baking soda and vinegar to pour down clogged drains. Let it sit overnight and flush with hot water
